Cloakroom hanger in Westminster is a reminder I must do my best for Ipswich
Firstly, I hope everyone had a great Christmas and I wish everyone in Ipswich a happy new year! Ipswich is a great place to be at this time of year, our fantastic pubs are alive with merriment and there are so many carol services it’s been impossible for me to even try and get to everyone.
Orwell Bridge Statement
I remember last October when it was announced that Highways England had commissioned an aerodynamics study looking at the ways in which closures of the Orwell Bridge could be minimized and what measures could be introduced to prevent closures of the bridge at times of high winds.
Statement on Election Result
It has been the greatest honour of my life to have been elected as the Member of Parliament for Ipswich in the early hours of Friday morning. The the result here in Ipswich and across the country is a clear indication that the majority of people would like the referendum result to be respected and Brexit to be delivered. There is a huge desire for us to turn a chapter and move on as a country. Once we have left the EU the focus then needs to be on bringing people together and healing the divisions in our country, however difficult this may be.
Controlling Immigration
My view is that we need to have the ability to control immigration. Being a member of the European Union makes it impossible for immigration to be controlled because of freedom of movement. I believe it was the desire for our country to be able to control immigration that was a key reason why people voted to leave the EU. It was one of the reasons I voted to leave.
Brexit Update
Last night I wrote to my Labour opponent outlining a number of questions regarding his Brexit stance. There is no doubt that the need to get Brexit done is one of the biggest challenges facing the country and I think its only right and proper that each candidate standing for Parliament outlines clearly their own position.
Leavers and Remainers in Ipswich are clear that they want to Get Brexit Done
Since the start of the General Election campaign, I and the Ipswich Conservatives have knocked on over 10,000 doors and we’ve been able to talk to over 3,000 people from across the town. We have a huge amount of door knocking still to do, but I’d like to think we have a fairly good idea of what people are thinking on some of the key issues.
Priti Patel Visits Ipswich to meet with Reflections Youth Volunteers
I was back at the Nansen Road Baptist Church this morning to welcome the Home Secretary Priti Patel to meet the inspirational volunteers behind the reflections youth club.
Polish National day with the Ipswich Polish community
Just got back from celebrating the Polish National day with the Ipswich Polish community. I have always had huge admiration for Poles, the values they hold and the enormous contribution they have made to our country and continue to make.
£18m extension to Opportunity Area programme
Very pleased that the Government have announced that Ipswich schools will continue to benefit from being in an education opportunity area. I know from discussions with teachers in Ipswich that the extra funding has made a real difference.
Let’s get Brexit done!
All General Elections are important, but my view is that this one is the most important in my life time. So much is on the line, not just Brexit. But on the topic of Brexit, let me just say this, whether you voted leave or remain, over three years ago a democratic process took place and as a country we voted to leave the EU and if I’m elected as the Member of Parliament for Ipswich I will do everything I can to ensure the result is respected and that Brexit is delivered this side of Christmas.
