Tom has carried out an NHS survey across the town to hear what people had to say about local NHS services. He is committed to working with key local and national decision makers to address the issues that were raised.
Tom says: “The survey results demonstrated that people are happy with our local hospital with over 90% of those who have used it over the past 12 months being happy with the service they received. However, less than 50% found it easy to book a GP appointment. I have met with the Chair of our Clinical Commissioning Group to discuss this and it is clear that our ratio of GPs to patients is inadequate. A key focus for me will be to work with organisations to address the issues affecting the recruitment and retention of medical professionals and to boost the number of GPs practicing locally. Another key focus for me will be ensuring that Ipswich Hospital benefits from the merger with Colchester Hospital. I will be holding discussions with the Health Secretary to make the case for the proposed orthopaedic centre being based in Ipswich.”
