Christmas Lights Competition
Have been in two minds about running the Christmas lights competition this year due the issue around energy costs etc. The Government have been running information campaigns about how to save energy etc. Particularly with this cold snap there is also significant pressure on our energy infrastructure.
However, a few conversations with constituents have convinced me to go ahead with it. At the end of the day it’s up to each of us whether we decide to put Christmas lights up. We all know how much they can add to energy bills but it’s up to each person and I’ve never been one for the “nanny state”.
Therefore I will again be taking note of the brilliant displays across the Town and there will be a competition for best road and house. And second and third places!
I remember the first Christmas I ran it, it was a very depressing time with COVID and the lights brightened up many areas and gave joy to many. Christmas this year has again come at a bit of a grim time but I hope that again the brilliant team work by many Ipswich residents to show off their Christmas lights can show a bit of joy.
