ORWELL BRIDGE WORKS COMPLETED
I really hope this is the big step we all hope it will be and will mean that frequent closures of the Orwell Bridge are a thing of the past.
The reality is its taken far too long to get to this point and its been very frustrating at times that Highways England haven’t been able to move faster. Both in terms of commissioning the original report, carrying it out, and then implementing its main recommendation (the introduction of a new 40mph during periods of strong winds).
This has been a big issue for many years and when elected I main it clear that working with Highways England and the County Council to resolve this asap was one of my top priorities. I’m glad that this now appears to be the case but I will continue to monitor developments closely.
This solution hardly seems like rocket science and if only it had been introduced many years ago so much disruption to the lives of my constituents could have been avoided as well as damage to the local economy.
However, we are where we are and I’m hopeful that today will prove to be a significant day.
I went up the bridge to see the teams working in introducing the new signs and cameras and plan to visit again soon.
