Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the people of Ipswich!
What a year it’s been. I don’t think anyone would have imagined it would have been as challenging as it’s been. Sadly some of us may have lost loved ones this year and others continue to be desperately concerned about their livelihoods and what the new few weeks and months ahead will bring. More generally, I don’t think there has been a single person in the Town whose mental health hasn’t been impacted at least to some extent by what’s happened over the past year.
It was an immense honour being elected as your MP last year and over the past year I’ve worked as hard as I can to try and repay that trust. One way or another, with the vaccine (and hopefully another before the end of the year) being rolled out across the country I do believe that next year will be far far better than 2020. What is for certain is that whatever happens I will continue to be there for all of my constituents and I will continue to go out to bat for our Town wherever and whenever I can.
On a final note, I must say I was rather glad to see the Prime Minister finally resolving Brexit earlier today. I need to read the full text but the early signs are encouraging. This seems like a good deal that fully respects the referendum result whilst also enabling us to continue close trading relationships with our European neighbours.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!
