Statement on Conservative Resignations
It’s regrettable that Heidi Allen, Sarah Wollaston and Anna Soubry felt it necessary to resign from the Conservative Party this morning. They all stood on a Conservative manifesto that had at its heart a strong desire to ensure that the result of the EU referendum is respected and delivered upon. Clearly all three had trouble sticking to this pledge.
The Conservative Party is and will remain a broad church where a variety of different views are held and healthy debate encouraged. It’s vital that if the Conservative Party is going to remain the Party of Government that this continues to be the case.
It’s become clear today that the Labour Party is facing a crisis of significant proportions. Eight MP’s who only a matter of days ago sat on the Labour benches now brand the Party as “institutionally anti-Semitic”, “a threat to national security” and claim that it has “turned its back on the British people”. A female, Jewish, heavily pregnant MP has effectively been bullied out of the Labour Party whilst the Labour leadership have simply stood back and allowed vile individuals to wield more and more influence within their Party.
The new Independent Group wish to block Brexit from happening. The Labour Party offers nothing but hatred and an economic strategy that would bankrupt our country and put us on track to becoming the next Venezuela.
It’s only the Conservative Party who will ensure that Brexit is delivered upon and ensure that our economy continues to grow to support our precious public services.
