Good meeting with Jonathan Denby from Greater Anglia this afternoon at Ipswich train station. It’s looking likely over the summer they will be rolling out the new trains across the network.
This will take about two years for it to be completed and there will be a number of phases. Ipswich will be at the front of the queue when it comes to benefiting and will be in the first phase. The new trains will be far more comfortable and the fact that they can break and accelerate more quickly and have electric doors will mean that journey times will be quicker.
It’s very much hoped that the first of the Ipswich-London in 60 minutes will also be introduced in the not too distant future. The rail service isn’t perfect, more infrastructure improvements are needed and I know that the cost of train tickets are also too high but I think the new trains are very good news for Ipswich.
