A view from The Winerack
Not a bad view for whoever the owner of this apartment ends up being. Not long until the first Winerack properties are available for sale. Enjoyed being given a tour of the site earlier today.
My response to Sandy Martin MP
Does Sandy respect the referendum result? Does Sandy respect the voters of Ipswich? So far he has failed to answer the question.
Delivering my Transport Survey
After a big week in Parliament I was out delivering my transport surveys with volunteers. This week we also saw Ipswich MP, Sandy Martin dismiss the democratic will of the people of Ipswich and back a 2nd Referendum . He believe 56 – 44 (it was actually 58%) is not a big majority and he knows better than the voters that elected him.
My meeting with Jonathan Denby from Greater Anglia
Good meeting with Jonathan Denby from Greater Anglia this afternoon at Ipswich train station. It’s looking likely over the summer they will be rolling out the new trains across the network.
My Waterfront Life Magazine Article
I was delighted to move into my new flat just off the Waterfront a couple of months ago. Never before have I lived by the water, so it makes a pleasant change. However, I see it as my job to campaign for things that will make Ipswich an even better place to live.
One of these priorities is transport. For me, the overriding infrastructure priority needs to be a northern bypass! When it comes to campaigning for this I plan to leave no stone left unturned. So far I’ve met with officials from the Department for Transport on two occasions and the County Council leader, to make clear my strong support.
Interestingly, I also had a long chat with the Secretary of State for International Trade about it as well. Stressing to him the importance of a northern bypass from the perspective of our country’s largest and busiest sea container port: the Port of Felixstowe.
This issue needs to be covered from multiple angles and I will not shy away from being robust in calling for significant financial investment from the Government. Ipswich needs and deserves better transport infrastructure and less traffic. Rest assured, I’m on the case!
TOM HUNT
Conservative, Prospective Parliamentary candidate for Ipswich
Conservative candidate Tom Hunt calls on Ipswich Labour to respect referendum result!
Have the Ipswich Labour Party forgotten that just over two years ago almost 40,000 people in the Borough of Ipswich voted to leave the EU? Over 58% of those who voted in Ipswich voted to leave. Is that not a clear enough verdict from the people of Ipswich?
No Second Referendum
I do think it takes a certain brass neck to visit a Town where almost 40,000 people voted to leave the EU with a bus covered with such a message. Perhaps more appropriate for them to cover the bus with the message, “B******* to the 58.3%” or “B******* to what you voted for”.
Monthly Update
Another busy month. There has been a strong education focus for me over the past four weeks with five visits to secondary schools in Ipswich. At each school I met with the head teacher to discuss the challenges facing their school and what their key concerns are.
Reflections on secondary school visits
The last four weeks for me have had a strong focus on education. All in all I’ve visited five secondary schools, meeting with the head teacher at each. These meetings have been extremely useful and have given me a real insight into the challenges there are within our schools.
Budget 2018 Response
Conservative Prospective Parliamentary candidate for Ipswich, Tom Hunt, has today welcomed yesterday’s budget statement by Chancellor of the Exchequer, Phillip Hammond. However he has also stated that it must be made to work for Ipswich.
