Controlling Immigration
My view is that we need to have the ability to control immigration. Being a member of the European Union makes it impossible for immigration to be controlled because of freedom of movement. I believe it was the desire for our country to be able to control immigration that was a key reason why people voted to leave the EU. It was one of the reasons I voted to leave.
Brexit Update
Last night I wrote to my Labour opponent outlining a number of questions regarding his Brexit stance. There is no doubt that the need to get Brexit done is one of the biggest challenges facing the country and I think its only right and proper that each candidate standing for Parliament outlines clearly their own position.
Leavers and Remainers in Ipswich are clear that they want to Get Brexit Done
Since the start of the General Election campaign, I and the Ipswich Conservatives have knocked on over 10,000 doors and we’ve been able to talk to over 3,000 people from across the town. We have a huge amount of door knocking still to do, but I’d like to think we have a fairly good idea of what people are thinking on some of the key issues.
Priti Patel Visits Ipswich to meet with Reflections Youth Volunteers
I was back at the Nansen Road Baptist Church this morning to welcome the Home Secretary Priti Patel to meet the inspirational volunteers behind the reflections youth club.
Polish National day with the Ipswich Polish community
Just got back from celebrating the Polish National day with the Ipswich Polish community. I have always had huge admiration for Poles, the values they hold and the enormous contribution they have made to our country and continue to make.
Let’s get Brexit done!
All General Elections are important, but my view is that this one is the most important in my life time. So much is on the line, not just Brexit. But on the topic of Brexit, let me just say this, whether you voted leave or remain, over three years ago a democratic process took place and as a country we voted to leave the EU and if I’m elected as the Member of Parliament for Ipswich I will do everything I can to ensure the result is respected and that Brexit is delivered this side of Christmas.
Tom meets up with Policing Minister, Kit Malthouse
I’ve been at Conservative Party conference over the last few days in Manchester. A lot on my agenda but very pleased to have had a long chat with the Policing Minister Kit Malthouse (pictured) about County lines and the need for Ipswich to benefit as much as possible from the 20,000 extra police officers that Boris has committed to.
Statement on election of Boris Johnson as Leader
I’m glad that Boris Johnson has won the Conservative Party leadership election. I made clear my support for Boris when he first threw his hat into the ring to become the next leader and I’m confident that he can deliver Brexit and defeat Jeremy Corbyn at the next General election, whenever it is.
Boris had a strong record as Mayor of London and I’m in strong agreement with his approach to Brexit, tackling knife crime and the importance of significant infrastructure projects.
We need to leave the EU by the end of October no ifs or buts.
It’s important that the Conservative Party now unites and focuses all its energy on delivering Brexit and defeating the most left wing and dangerous Labour leader this country has ever had.
Jeremy Hunt is an extremely honourable man who has fought a commendable campaign and I’m sure he has a key role to play within the Conservative Party over the coming months.
Looking forward
My name is Tom Hunt and I am the Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate for Ipswich. I was deeply honoured to be selected by local members to be the candidate and my aim between now and the next general election is to win the confidence of the people in Ipswich to be their next Conservative Member of Parliament.
