Since his selection as the Conservative MP candidate for Ipswich Tom has made clear his support for the Town centre and has lobbied Government for extra funds to support it. While the local Labour council have been busy spending council tax payers money propping up out of Town retail centres that undermine the Town centre. Tom held a meeting with the Local Government Minister Jake Berry MP to secure much needed funds to support our Town centre.
Tom says: “Time and time again the state of our Town centre comes up during conversations with local residents. Many feel like the range of shops has declined and that overall the Town centre isn’t what it was. Once and for all we need to come up with an ambitious plan to better connect the Town centre with the Waterfront so that they fully complement each other. If elected I will campaign for changes to business rates to help support high street retailers. I will also work with the police to help tackle anti-social behaviour problems in the Town centre which blight the experience of going into the Town centre for many. I’m glad that Ipswich has progressed to the next stage of the Government’s Towns Fund process. Clearly £25 million of Government money would be transformative.”
