Ipswich town centre has a lot going for it but there are things that could be done to attract more shoppers and make it more appealing. There should be a zero-tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour in the town centre and car parking charges should be set at a rate that attracts people to the Town and gives shop owners a boost. I do not believe that car parking charges should be seen as a cash cow to prop up council budgets. Too often this creates a mindset within councils where simply increasing parking charges becomes the easy thing to do.
I welcome the support that the Government announced in this year’s budget statement in relation to supporting our high streets and town centres. The significant business rates relief is to be welcomed as is the £650 that has been made available for high streets and their transport links.
